PRIMARY PLAYGROUND RULES

  • The Freeze Bell stops all games and play
  • Corridors are off limits before school, during recesses and lunch
  • All students must walk in the corridors
  • Students must use school equipment – no equipment from home
  • Tackle, tag, chase, and “play-fight” games are not allowed
Swings
  • Sit facing the playground
  • Swing back and forth – no twisting, twirling or sideways swinging
  • Count to 30 when waiting to swing; no count backs – count on someone new
  • No jumping – bring the swing to a stop and step off
  •  
    Sand
  • Do not throw or “flick” sand
  • Fill in all holes before leaving the area
  • Do not destroy other’s work
  • Stop digging when you “meet dirt”
  •  
    Tetherball
  • No hanging on the ropes
  • No sitting on the ball
  •  
    Dome
  • No playing under the dome
  • No standing on the top of the dome or jumping off
  •  
    Slide, Poles, Crossing Bars
  • One person at a time on the slide and poles
  • Slide on your bottom, feet first
  • Go down only – do not climb up the slide
  • One person at a time goes across the crossing bars
  • No jumping off at the top or running on the stairs
  •  
    Balls - Rubber balls are for hand ball, throwing, bouncing, socking – NO KICKING rubber balls.
     
    Jump rope - Use the rope for jumping only.
     
    Handball - Use wooden handball wall only; the building walls are not to be used for any ball games

    FREEZE BELL

    • Sand Area - Get off all equipment, walk to the edge of the grass, freeze, and listen.
    • Grass or Blacktop - Stop, freeze, and listen.

    UPPER GRADE PLAYGROUND RULES

    • The freeze bell stops all games and play
    • Hallways and corridors are off limits before school and during recesses and lunch
    • All students must walk in hallways and corridors
    • Students must use school equipment – no equipment from home
    • Tackle, tag, chase or “play-fight” games are not allowed
    Swings
  • Sit facing the blacktop and swing back and forth only
  • You must swing on the swings - no sitting, spinning, or twisting
  • Only one person may be on each seat at a time
  • If no swings are free, you may count on another student
  • Count 30 swings (back and forth); no count backs
  • No jumping! Bring the swing to a complete stop and step off.

    Sand
  • No throwing or flicking sand
  • Do not destroy other people's projects
  • Fill in the holes when you leave
  •  
    Bars
  • One person on a bar at a time
  • Hold on with both hands - no standing on the bars
  • Count to 60 to get a turn
  •  
    Crossing Bars
  • One person at a time on the bars
  • The line starts at the end closest to the drinking fountains
  • Go in one direction only
  • No climbing on top of bars
  •  
    Balls
  • Use only school balls
  • The person who takes out the ball returns it
  • BEFORE SCHOOL PLAYGROUND RULES

    • Blacktop and sand areas only
    • No sand if it is wet
    • Hallways, corridors, USA map, and areas behind portables and shed are out of bounds
    • No grass before school
    • Soccer and kick balls are not allowed before school
    • No kickback, ricochet, or kickball basketball
